Located on Aikman Drive, the new Belconnen childcare centre is a 650m2 facility consisting of 7 separate play rooms and 6 cot rooms.
The centre has the capacity to care for up to 94 children at any one time and the open design of the building, along with high rating energy rating, allows staff to monitor the children with ease and ensures they can do so in comfort year round.
The centre is constructed of a prefabricated timber frame and light weight cladding including Hardies Matrix and commercial glazing sections, with portions of masonry veneer.
The external play area includes a bike track, a ‘soft fall’ play area and a large sandpit, guaranteed to entertain the
kids for hours. Retained native vegetation, along with architecturally designed shade structures provide shade to
the playground area to ensure playtime is both fun and sun smart.
The centre is the first childcare project for PBS Homes and required the team to work closely with the design team
to ensure client outcomes were achieved. The team successfully delivered a high quality childcare centre on-time
and on-budget.
