Coventry is a mixed use development of residential apartments, offices and restaurants in the inner Canberra suburb of Dickson.
Coventry is located on the site of a previous ACT Government works depot, where in-ground fuel tanks had caused significant ground contamination. Before the project could commence, significant on site and off site remediation of the soil was completed to meet current environmental guidelines.
PBS Building’s brief for the project was for the construction of all works and design of services. Whilst the responsibility for structural and architectural design remained with the client, PBS continually worked with them to minimise costs, improve usability and deliver time savings.
The project comprised a single level
basement for all residential parking,
16 office suites and restaurants at street
level
with public parking and
46 residential apartments above the
courtyard level.
The transfer levels are designed using post tensioned slabs with load bearing and lightweight structures used above them for both economy and speed in the residential areas of the development.
The post tensioned slabs were selected
to assist with the waterproofing of
the podium level where extensive
landscaping and a flowing river were
built over the offices.
