Project Value
$44,000,000
The new ACT Prison is a $130M correction facility
in Symonston. The facility
is a 300
bed campus style prison
employing the latest
technology to communicate with, control and contain the
population,
and is a model of
sustainable design.
Undertaken as a sub-contract arrangement with
Bovis Lend Lease (BLL), PBS Building constructed
18 of the 31
buildings at the prison, including all accommodation buildings and the entire Women’s section of the prison. PBS Building was asked by BLL to partner
in their bid at tender stage with a view to spreading
resource requirements and gaining PBS’ expertise with
accommodation buildings.
Services comprise almost 40% of the prison’s costs
and along with the ACT Government’s desire to make
the secure
nature of the buildings less visible, the
required design and details have made this an extremely
challenging project.
By employing PBS’ faster procurement and innovative
construction techniques, PBS led the program
and as
such was instrumental in resolving design
issues, services coordination and construction details
from commencement.
