Our commitment to achieving best practice in regards to Health & Safety is delivered through a robust and active management system. As part of our commitment, PBS provides continual training to all staff to ensure they have the necessary skills to perform their roles safely and to a standard of excellence. PBS has independent certification to AS4801 Occupational Health and Safety Management systems and the Australian Government Building & Construction OHS Accreditation Scheme.
EHS Policy
Overview
PBS is committed to delivering environmental, health and safety processes that proactively manage the environment and protect the safety and wellbeing of all employees, contractors and members of the community across all PBS controlled workplaces.
The Policy is reviewed annually and updated to ensure that it complies with current legislation, Codes of Practice and Standards. The Policy is displayed at all PBS workplaces and is communicated to all PBS personnel via induction programs. It is available to all interested parties and the general public upon request.
Responsibility
The documented system is implemented & maintained by all PBS employees with the support of EHS representatives who establish and lead committees (which include employees and contractors), to monitor the implementation of risk assessment including Work Method Statements.
Objectives
PBS’s objectives for the Policy are to:
Maintain compliance with applicable EHS statutory requirements as a minimum standard;
Commit to a continual improvement process;
Provide a safe place of work for all PBS employees, contractors, and members of the public during the course of all Company controlled activities;
Deliver innovative ecologically sustainable environmental solutions and prevent pollution;
Key Actions
The actions associated with achieving the above objectives include:
Document and implement an Environmental & Safety Plan for each PBS controlled workplace;
Provide adequate resources to effectively manage contractor adherence to documented EHS requirements;
Provide ongoing training and guidance to all PBS personnel;
Research and, where practicable, implement solutions to control any potentially negative environmental impacts associated with PBS projects;
Regular monitoring and monthly reviews of EHS targets at project, regional and senior management levels; and
PBS management to engage in consultative processes and consider responses when making decisions on EHS matters.

Environmental Protection
A key objective across all divisions within PBS is the delivery of innovative, ecologically sustainable solutions. PBS actively manages environmental risks across all aspects of our operations and we continue to promote and raise awareness of effective environmental protection & management practices within the PBS Property Group and our contractor network.
PBS Building and Homes has a current ACT Environmental Protection Agreement with ACT Environment. PBS Homes also has accreditation as a Housing Industry Association (HIA) "GreenSmart" builder and independent certification to AS/NZS ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems.
